Quarterfinals set in 2016 Bank of Guam GFA Cup

[May 17, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] Quarterfinal spots are all locked up in the Bank of Guam 9th Annual GFA Cup tournament following eight Round 1 matches at the Guam Football Association National Training Center last week.

Rovers DI, champions of the Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division, will begin all quarterfinal fixtures on Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Lots of Art Tattoo Heat. The Rovers DI blanked Shinko Siheky FC, fourth place finishers in BSL Division II, 7-0 with two goals each from Ian Mariano and Logan Dillenburger and one each from David McCallum, Jeremy Boldt, and Natsuki Recella.

The LOA Heat prevented an all-Rovers quarterfinal with a 3-2 victory over Rovers DII, silver finishers in BSL Division II. Riley Jones-Taijeron scored twice for the Heat and William Naden II scored the eventual game winner. Devan Mendiola scored twice for Rovers DII.

Shipyard wins Bank of Guam 8th GFA Cup tourney

[May 31, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] Guam Shipyard hoisted the GFA Cup championship trophy for the third time in eight years after defeating the Payless Supermarkets Strykers FC 1-1 (5-3) in a penalty kick shootout in the final of the Bank of Guam 8th Annual GFA Cup Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Strykers took the early lead with a shot by Christian Dickson in a goalmouth scramble in the 20th minute. Ten minutes later, Shipyard’s Ken Karosich took on Strykers defenders down the left flank and crossed the ball into the box for the finish by Mark Chargualaf to equalize the contest through to halftime.

Both teams had chances to put away the match in the second half and after two 15-minute extra time halves, but after 120 minutes of play, the teams entered into a penalty kick shootout to determine the tournament champions.

Shipyard v Strykers in Bank of Guam tourney final

[May 24, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] A new champion will be crowned May 31 in the Bank of Guam 8th Annual GFA Cup tournament with the exit of 2014 champions Rovers FC in its semifinal match against the Payless Supermarket Strykers FC Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Strykers defeated the Budweiser Soccer League champions 3-2 with two goals and one assist from Dylan Naputi and one goal from Marcus Lopez. Ian Mariano scored both goals for Rovers FC.

The Strykers will play two-time champion Guam Shipyard in the tournament's championship match May 31 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Semifinals set for Bank of Guam 8th GFA Cup tourney

[May 13, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] The Southern Cobras and Doosan FC were the first premier division teams to fall in Bank of Guam 8th Annual GFA Cup quarterfinal action at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

In the tournament's first quarterfinal matchup, Guam Shipyard defeated the Southern Cobras 3-1 with a pair of goals from Mark Chargualaf and one from Micah Paulino. Gerard Aguon scored the Cobras' lone goal of the contest.

The Rovers DII are the lone second division team to make the quarterfinals of the tournament after defeating Doosan FC 10-0.

Top eight teams move on to Bank of Guam tourney quarters

[May 5, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] No surprises yet in the Bank of Guam 8th Annual GFA Cup with all teams from Division I of the BSL and the first place team from Division II making the quarterfinals of the tournament after Round 1 action over the weekend at Guam Football Association National Training Center.

In Sunday's matches, the Rovers DI defeated the Strykers Masters 16-0 with a double hat trick from Yaw Antwi-Agyei, five from Ian Mariano, two from Keita Yoshida and one each from Shane Healy, Natsuki Recella, and Alfred Agahan.

The Paradise Fitness Sidekicks defeated the Strykers DII 5-2 with two goals from Scott Spindel and one each from Joey Lopez, Jr., Matt Robles, and Shawn Spindel. Bradley Dickson and Jeremy Wendal scored for Strykers DII.
