Rovers FC D1 win Bank of Guam GFA Cup vs Shipyard
[May 31, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] The Rovers FC D1 capped their Budweiser Soccer League championship from earlier in the year with another championship - the Bank of Guam 9th Annual GFA Cup.
The Rovers FC D1 defeated 2015 champions Guam Shipyard 2-1 in a highly physical match that saw both sides receive yellow cards and the Rovers' Jason Cunliffe exit in the 73rd minute with a red card.
Jason Cunliffe and Logan Dillenburger scored for the Rovers and Mark Chargualaf scored for Guam Shipyard. The championship win is the Rovers' second in GFA Cup tournament history.
Top four teams advance to Bank of Guam GFA Cup semis
[May 20, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] The four top-ranked teams in the Bank of Guam 9th Annual GFA Cup soccer tournament are through to the semifinals set to begin 5 p.m. Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
Defending champions Guam Shipyard are still in the title hunt with a 10-3 victory over the Crushers FC, one of three Budweiser Soccer League Division II teams that made it to the quarterfinals. Andre Gadia led the Shipyard tally with four goals and teammate Mark Chargualaf scored twice in the win. BSL Premier Division Golden Boot winner Min Sung Choi, Donald Weakley, Christopher Reyes, and Jestin Escobar also scored. Justin Samonte, Osie Cruz, and Noah Duenas scored for the Crushers.
Shipyard will next face BSL DI bronze finishers Quality Distributors FC at 5 p.m. Sunday in the first of two semifinal matches.
Quarterfinals set in 2016 Bank of Guam GFA Cup
[May 17, 2016 - Harmon, Guam] Quarterfinal spots are all locked up in the Bank of Guam 9th Annual GFA Cup tournament following eight Round 1 matches at the Guam Football Association National Training Center last week.
Rovers DI, champions of the Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division, will begin all quarterfinal fixtures on Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Lots of Art Tattoo Heat. The Rovers DI blanked Shinko Siheky FC, fourth place finishers in BSL Division II, 7-0 with two goals each from Ian Mariano and Logan Dillenburger and one each from David McCallum, Jeremy Boldt, and Natsuki Recella.
The LOA Heat prevented an all-Rovers quarterfinal with a 3-2 victory over Rovers DII, silver finishers in BSL Division II. Riley Jones-Taijeron scored twice for the Heat and William Naden II scored the eventual game winner. Devan Mendiola scored twice for Rovers DII.
Shipyard wins Bank of Guam 8th GFA Cup tourney
[May 31, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] Guam Shipyard hoisted the GFA Cup championship trophy for the third time in eight years after defeating the Payless Supermarkets Strykers FC 1-1 (5-3) in a penalty kick shootout in the final of the Bank of Guam 8th Annual GFA Cup Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
The Strykers took the early lead with a shot by Christian Dickson in a goalmouth scramble in the 20th minute. Ten minutes later, Shipyard’s Ken Karosich took on Strykers defenders down the left flank and crossed the ball into the box for the finish by Mark Chargualaf to equalize the contest through to halftime.
Both teams had chances to put away the match in the second half and after two 15-minute extra time halves, but after 120 minutes of play, the teams entered into a penalty kick shootout to determine the tournament champions.
Shipyard v Strykers in Bank of Guam tourney final
[May 24, 2015 - Harmon, Guam] A new champion will be crowned May 31 in the Bank of Guam 8th Annual GFA Cup tournament with the exit of 2014 champions Rovers FC in its semifinal match against the Payless Supermarket Strykers FC Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
The Strykers defeated the Budweiser Soccer League champions 3-2 with two goals and one assist from Dylan Naputi and one goal from Marcus Lopez. Ian Mariano scored both goals for Rovers FC.
The Strykers will play two-time champion Guam Shipyard in the tournament's championship match May 31 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
