Defending champs Strykers vs Rovers in Cup finale

[May 24, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] Defending champions Bank of Guam Strykers will take on six-time Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division champions NAPA Rovers FC in the finale of the Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Strykers dispatched Quality Distributors FC 5-1 in the semifinals Thursday evening to earn a spot in the championship match to defend their 2018 title. Ian Mariano, Bradley Dickson, Isiah Lagutang, Morgan McKenna, and Ethan Sablan each scored for the Strykers. Joseph Darly scored for Quality.

In the earlier match, the NAPA Rovers FC outlasted Islanders FC 6-4 to punch their ticket to the finals. James Lee and Micah Hennegan each scored twice and teammates Matt Robles and Michael Crowley added one each in the win. Inochi Recella, Antonio Prieto, Aaron Blaz, and Patson Haimin scored for the Islanders.


Strykers successfully defend Bank of Guam GFA Cup title

[May 29, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] The Bank of Guam Strykers FC successfully defended their GFA Cup title with a 5-1 win over NAPA Rovers FC is Sunday evening’s finale of the 12th edition of the tournament presented by Bank of Guam at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The title defense was a sweet victory for the Strykers, as the team had been unable to defeat the Rovers in three matches during the regular season of the Budweiser Soccer League Premier Division. The Rovers finished as six-time champions of the league with an undefeated record in regular season, 19-0-2.

In the GFA Cup championship match, the Strykers managed to run up the score to 3-0 by halftime with two from Marcus Lopez and one from Ethan Sablan.


Final four teams set for semis in Bank of Guam tourney

[May 18, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] Defending champions Bank of Guam Strykers FC are among the final four teams still alive in the Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup tournament following quarterfinal action at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Thursday and Friday evenings.

In the closest match of the quarterfinals, the Strykers managed to pull away from the University of Guam Tritons midway through the second half to win 3-1 and earn a spot in the semifinals. With both teams entering the deciding half with one goal each, the Strykers’ Joe Connelley scored the eventual game winner in the 60th minute. A little over 15 minutes later, Scott Spindel scored his team’s third goal, managing to get his foot on the ball to send it into the net during a brief tussle with UOG goalkeeper Jake Uncangco near the goal box.

Isiah Lagutang scored the Strykers’ first-half goal in the sixth minute and UOG’s Ryoga Okada scored his team’s lone goal in the 12th minute.


Quarterfinal fixtures set in 12th Annual GFA Cup tourney

[May 12, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] Quarterfinal fixtures are set for the Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup following three days of Round 1 action in the main draw over the weekend at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Lots of Art Tattoo Heat were the final team to claim its spot in the tournament quarterfinals, edging a relentless Crushers FC team 5-4 Saturday evening.

The Crushers amassed an early 3-1 lead in just over 20 minutes of play until a pair of goals from LOA Heat’s Sydney Talledo and Fred Alig III locked the halftime score at 3-all. LOA Heat struck first in the second half on Talledo’s second for the night in the 58th minute, but seven minutes later, the Crushers’ Joseph Kim found LOA Heat goalkeeper Keith Surber playing high and framed a lob shot from distance to level the match for the third time. LOA Heat’s Seth Surber later prevented a penalty kick shootout, netting the eventual game winner in the 79th minute.


Final fixtures revealed for GFA Cup, Women's GFA Cup

[April 16, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] The final brackets for the upcoming Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup men’s soccer tournament and the Jamaican Grill Annual Women’s GFA Cup soccer tournament were recently published by the Guam Football Association Competitions Department.

Following Saturday evening’s official draw with William Li, Bank of Guam Assistant Vice President/Andersen Branch Manager and GFA Competitions Committee Chairman Gian Tenorio, teams from the Budweiser Soccer League Amateur Division and Masters Division were placed in the preliminary round of the Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup. The eight preliminary round matches will begin May 2 with winning teams advancing to the tournament’s main bracket.

The Bank of Guam Strykers II will officially open the tournament against Omega Warriors at 7 p.m. May 2, followed by the Guam Windward Memorial Bombers SC against NAPA Rovers Masters at 9 p.m. the same evening.
