Quarterfinal fixtures set in 12th Annual GFA Cup tourney

[May 12, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] Quarterfinal fixtures are set for the Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup following three days of Round 1 action in the main draw over the weekend at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Lots of Art Tattoo Heat were the final team to claim its spot in the tournament quarterfinals, edging a relentless Crushers FC team 5-4 Saturday evening.

The Crushers amassed an early 3-1 lead in just over 20 minutes of play until a pair of goals from LOA Heat’s Sydney Talledo and Fred Alig III locked the halftime score at 3-all. LOA Heat struck first in the second half on Talledo’s second for the night in the 58th minute, but seven minutes later, the Crushers’ Joseph Kim found LOA Heat goalkeeper Keith Surber playing high and framed a lob shot from distance to level the match for the third time. LOA Heat’s Seth Surber later prevented a penalty kick shootout, netting the eventual game winner in the 79th minute.

Final fixtures revealed for GFA Cup, Women's GFA Cup

[April 16, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] The final brackets for the upcoming Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup men’s soccer tournament and the Jamaican Grill Annual Women’s GFA Cup soccer tournament were recently published by the Guam Football Association Competitions Department.

Following Saturday evening’s official draw with William Li, Bank of Guam Assistant Vice President/Andersen Branch Manager and GFA Competitions Committee Chairman Gian Tenorio, teams from the Budweiser Soccer League Amateur Division and Masters Division were placed in the preliminary round of the Bank of Guam 12th Annual GFA Cup. The eight preliminary round matches will begin May 2 with winning teams advancing to the tournament’s main bracket.

The Bank of Guam Strykers II will officially open the tournament against Omega Warriors at 7 p.m. May 2, followed by the Guam Windward Memorial Bombers SC against NAPA Rovers Masters at 9 p.m. the same evening.

Bank of Guam Strykers team win first-ever GFA Cup title

[July 1, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] The Bank of Guam Strykers I stayed perfect through the Jamaican Grill 11th Annual GFA Cup to claim the 2018 title in a 5-1 contest against the NAPA Rovers FC Saturday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

With the match level at 1-1 at the halftime break, the Strykers turned up the intensity in the deciding half, scoring four unanswered goals for the title. Speedster Joshua Calvo led all scorers with a pair of goals for the winning team and teammates Scott Spindel, Clayton Mitchell and Aidan Dickson also scored for the Strykers. Shawn Spindel scored the Rovers’ lone goal in the 14th minute.

The Strykers become only the fourth team to win the tournament since its inception. Both Quality Distributors and Guam Shipyard have won the tournament four times and the NAPA Rovers won the other two editions.

Rovers, Strykers to play for Jamaican Grill GFA Cup title

[June 24, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] The NAPA Rovers will take on the Bank of Guam Strykers I for the Jamaican Grill 11th Annual GFA Cup championship title Saturday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The NAPA Rovers, champions of the recently concluded Budweiser Men’s Soccer One League and two-time winners of Guam’s premier men’s soccer tournament, will have the opportunity to add hardware to their 2018 haul in the tournament’s final match against the Bank of Guam Strykers, set to kick off at 7 p.m.

The Rovers defeated the Bombers SC 10-1 in last week’s semifinal match with four goals from Min Sung Choi and a hat trick by Matt Robles.

Final four teams advance to Jamaican Grill GFA Cup semis

[June 18, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] The final four teams still alive in the Jamaican Grill 11th Annual GFA Cup are inching closer to the 2018 championship as Guam’s premier men’s soccer tournament continues Saturday evening with a pair of semifinal fixtures at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Islanders FC advanced to the semifinals with a 4-2 win over Budweiser Men’s Soccer One League finalists Lots of Art Tattoo Heat with two goals from Devan Mendiola and one each from Kyle Perez and Jordan Jasmin. Riley Jones-Taijeron and Keith Surber scored for LOA Heat in the loss.
